There are many areas represented on the map. All areas of interest are given a colored outline and/or a color filling that pertain to one of the following:

Hauler Service Area Defines areas a hauler can service multiple filled
Locale The outline of city limits or a zipcode boundary white outline

Special Use Calls out a hauler related area that has additonal important information red dashed outline

Pin

The pin placed in the map will represent either the address or the geographic center of a zipcode or city in the search results. If a search is for an address that has an available street view (typically used for placement) the pin will note this by replacing the 'dot' in the middle with the letters 'SV'. Cities, counties, and zip code searches do not enable street view - only address searches.

Hauler Service Areas

Hauler service areas are represented by various colors and will be coordinated to match the associated pricing records in the results.

Tip

If you hover over a pricing record the associated service area on the map will become highlighted

Locale

If you perform a search for a zipcode, city, or county the geographic boundaries should be visible on the map. This will help you identify where the searched area lies in relation to other serviceable areas or if the search area is split between multiple serviceable areas.

MSA

If a search result falls inside one of our MSA areas it will be represented on the map by an unfilled grey boundary. MSA areas are simply how we define a given market as a company. In the example below this is how we've defined the Cleveland market geographically.

Geographic Note and Special Use Areas

Some searches will include additional information aside from just hauler service areas. Geographic notes are our way of calling out region specific areas on the map that have additional important information associated with them. They will typically show up as a red, green, yellow, or orange area within the map.

Likewise, special use areas are hauler related areas that may need additional explanation (franchised areas, no service available, additional cost, etc). Special use areas will show up on the map in a red dashed outline that will fill with a red color when you hover over it or its note.

If a geography note or special use area is included with search results they will show up as individual red sections to the left side of the map like the image below.

The Mini Map

As you scroll through pricing results you may lose sight of the larger map at the top of the screen. To help keep the map in view we've added a mini map that will pin itself to the lower right of the screen. Once you scroll past the bottom of the large map this additional smaller map should then appear. You have all of the same functionality (street view, zoom, map/satellite views) of the larger map just in a smaller space.

The mini map can be expanded or closed by clicking the +/- at any time and the application will remember the state you left it in. If you close the mini map and continue searching it will remain closed until you choose to open it again.

The mini map will also show you the current local time of the geographic area you have search for.

Sometimes the street view in the application can differ slightly from Google Maps online. We've included an external link that will take your search and apply it to Google Maps online in a new tab in your browser. To do this just click on View On Google Maps.

Likewise, sometimes Google Maps does not have an area covered or has an obstructed view. To help in this situation we've also included a link to Bing Maps. To link to your search in Bing Maps just click on View On Bing Maps.
